IG Replacements

Insulated Glass Units (IG), also referred to as Double Pane Windows or Thermopane units, are constructed with two or more pieces of glass that are separated by an air space. The air cavity creates a buffer between the exterior lite of glass and the interior lite of glass which helps reduce the thermal transfer between the inside of your home and the outside temperatures.

IG units have a life expectancy to them. Over ten to twenty years, the sealed air space between the layers of glass may become compromised, and the air gets saturated. This causes the “fogging” you see in failed insulated glass. In extreme cases, the inside of the glass will turn chalky and white.

The solution is to replace the insulated glass unit itself, not the entire window. The skilled installers at Capitol Glass Co., Inc can repair the window, in the same manner, we would fix it if it had broken glass. We take the current IG unit out and replace it with a new one. We use the existing frame or sash, and all we replace is the glass.
